It’s just about here.  A few more hours and 2013 will be in the past and 2014 will be here.  Lots of folks make New Year’s resolutions, I’m wondering what yours might be?  I would guess the greatest majority of resolutions have to do with health and fitness.  Getting yourself to the gym, or out the door for a walk or run, or any physical activity is one of the best things you can do for yourself.  Activity and a healthy diet and lifestyle provide benefits that you can and can’t see.  You will look better, feel better and in general have a better outlook on life and everything you do if you make it a daily habit.  I am a runner and I love to work out in a program at the gym called TRX, which uses straps and your own body weight as resistance.  This past year I got a road bike and was the cyclist for a half ironman relay team of women ages 55-59.  We won our relay and I couldn’t have been happier.  This year one of my fitness goals is to learn how to swim.  I can save myself in the water and took swimming lessons as a kid, but have no idea how to properly swim.  If it goes well, I may enter a triathlon on my own this year!  I have a marathon planned for the end of May, so training starts soon, towards the end of January.  Having a goal that you have to work towards is a great way to stick to your New Years resolution of healthy living!  So think about it and get started.  Your goal doesn’t have to be big, but it should be a challenge so that you know you’ve improved and done something positive for YOU!  Even if it’s just doing something physical each day that you don’t do now and sticking to it, that will be a huge step in the right direction!  They say that sitting is the new smoking…so get up and MOVE!  Good luck to all, and see you on the road!
